Born August 18, 1932 in Fulton County, IN, he is the son of the late Oral Forrest Burns and Thelma (Crugan) Burns. He is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps who received the Purple Heart while serving in the Korean War. He was married to Cora M. Read More	Jackie Lee Burns, 81, of Peru, IN, passed away at 9:13 AM Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis. Born August 18, 1932 in Fulton County, IN, he is the son of the late Oral Forrest Burns and Thelma (Crugan) Burns. He is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps who received the Purple Heart while serving in the Korean War. He was married to Cora M. (Kelley) Burns, and she preceded him in death on January 11, 2003. He was employed with the U.S. Post office for over 17 years before retiring. He was a member of the V.F.W. post #2067 in Peru, Moose Lodge and Eagles Lodge of Kokomo and Peru; also American Legion Post #6 of Kokomo. He attained his pilot’s license, loved fishing, boating, and spending time with his family. He is survived by two sons Jackie Lee Burns Jr of Kokomo, James Lucas (Frances) Burns of Watha, NC; one daughter Ramona Lisa (Shannon) Minglin of Kokomo; one step-son Mark (Vickie) Engle of Kokomo; one step-daughter Marcia Keating of Kokomo; 15 grandchildren Shelby, Kaitlyn, Stephanie, Jacob, Joshua, James (wife Kayla), Tricia, Robert, Morgan, Christopher, Mandy, Kelly, Deanna, Nikki, and Andy; one niece Michelle Moore and her daughter Misty; two great nephews Johnny and Cory Silcox; also many great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and one sister Phyllis Bence; one niece Melanie Ward. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday August 20, 2014 at Ellers Mortuary Main Street Chapel, 725 South Main Street, Kokomo. Reverend Mark Engle will officiate. Burial with military rites by the Miami County Military Rites Unit will follow at Kokomo Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Wednesday at the mortuary.
