JACOB ALONZO ZIEGLER, well known citizen of Washington County, died at his home, Funkstown Hill, yesterday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock, from complications, aged 80 years. Mr. Ziegler taught in the schools of Smithsburg and in 1879 was appointed principal of the grammar department of the Washington County High School. In 1880 he married Margaret Hollingsworth, daughter of Capt. John Hollingsworth, of Smithsburg, and moved to Hagerstown. ZIEGLER DIES, AGED 80 - Widely Known Citizen Expires At Home Near Funkstown. JACOB ALONZO ZIEGLER, well known citizen of Washington County, died at his home, Funkstown Hill, yesterday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock, from complications, aged 80 years. Mr. Ziegler taught in the schools of Smithsburg and in 1879 was appointed principal of the grammar department of the Washington County High School. In 1880 he married Margaret Hollingsworth, daughter of Capt. John Hollingsworth, of Smithsburg, and moved to Hagerstown. He then became a member of the first faculty of the Washington County High School. He was the last surviving member of the original faculty. For many years he was principal of the Antietam Grammar School. In 1905 he became superintendent of the Washington County Orphans' Home, in which capacity he served for 11 years. Since then he has been living retired at his home on the Funkstown Hill. He was born October 20, 1854, at Brown's Mills, Pa., and moved to Leitersburg in 1857, where he was reared. He was a member of Zion Reformed Church Resolute Council, Jr. O. U. A. M., Woodmen of the World, and was the oldest member of Potomac Lodge, I. O. O. F. He is survived by the following: Daughters, Miss Electa Ziegler and Mrs. W. Geary Porter, at home; Mrs. James C. Simmous, Oklahoma City; one son, Charles L. Ziegler, Hagerstown; sister, Mrs. Annie Wolfinger, Cavetown. Three grandchildren also survive. The funeral will be held at the home Friday afternoon, services at 4 o'clock, with Rev. Dr. Scott R.
