Description	:	Central City Courier April 22, 1880 Mr. Jacob Miller, an old resident of Merrick county, had the sad misfortune to lose his arm in the Spring Creek mills last week. We were unable to learn particulars, but it seems the arm was caught in the machinery in some way and was literally torn to pieces clear to the shoulder. Read More	Central City Courier April 22, 1880 Mr. Jacob Miller, an old resident of Merrick county, had the sad misfortune to lose his arm in the Spring Creek mills last week. We were unable to learn particulars, but it seems the arm was caught in the machinery in some way and was literally torn to pieces clear to the shoulder. The matter was attended to by a St Paul Physician. LATER,--since the above was written we learn that the accident happened while Mr Miller was placing a band over a wheel. His sleeve caught between the band and the wheel and the arm was almost in an instant drawn to the shoulder and torn off. Mr. Mille seized a post standing near and the strain was so severe that his remaining arm and the body on the same side were rendered black and blue. The arm was literally pulled from the body , bringing with it cords and muscles from far into the shoulder. Strange to say Mr Miller then stopped the mill, and walked to the house, a distance of fifteen rods. At last accounts he was under fair way to recovery Central City Courier May 6, 1880 The funeral services for J. A. Miller, who recently lost his arm in the Spring Creek mills, took place yesterday, Masonic ceremonies being conducted at the grave. His death was caused, we understand, by a hemorrhage of the severed artery, which in the process of healing it was found impossible to keep closed.
