Our subject has been a resident of Champaign Co since 6 years of age. During his boyhood days, but few school privileges were enjoyed hence education was limited with Jacob, who, during his early life learned the black smith trade and first set up shop in St Paris. One year later he located in Millerstown where he had learned his trade. There he conducted his business a period of twenty years with a satisfactory patronage. At this time ill health caused him to seek other labor and he engaged in the general merchandise trade in the same village. In 1866, he sold this and purchased his present farm of eighty acres in Sec 26, Johnson Township, where he has since been located cultivating it with success. In 1847 he married Eliza Strickler, a native of Champaign Co, born in 1826. Their children, six in number, are all living. The St Paris Press January 30, 1908 Jacob Ammon, son of Peter and Elizabeth Ammon, was born in Rockingham Co, VA, on October 20, 1821, and died in St Paris January 26, 1908, aged 86 years, 3 months and 6 days. He immigrated with his parents to Champaign County in 1827. He was married to Eliza Strickler on April 8, 1847, to them were born three sons and three daughters, all of who are living and whose names are Elizabeth J Miley, Mary A Mock, John W, Benjamin F, Peter H and Cora F White. Mr Ammon was in blacksmithing in Millerstown until 1865 when he purchased a farm and engaged in farming. After the death of his companion in 1899, he has spent much of his time with his children and grandchildren. He spent his last days with his grand daughter, Mrs Burns. He leaves six children, twelve grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and one sister Mary A Nincyhelser of Cable. The funeral was at the Baptist Church on Tuesday, services were conducted by Rev N Mathews. Interment was in Spring Grove Cemetery.
