Jacob Asberry Wolf was born in HIghland County, Ohio, on the 18th day of July, 1852, and departed this life in Corydon, Iowa, on the 30th day of November, 1927, aged 75 years, 4 months and 17 days. Mr. Wolf was the third son of Reece and Susan C. (Miller)Wolf and came with them to Wayne county, Iowa in the spring of 1853. His parents were among the early pioneers of this county and helped to convert the prairies of the western country into homes. When Mr. Wolf was ten years of age his father and two older brothers enlisted in the Union Army and did their part to save the union from dissolution. At the tender age of ten years Mr. Wolf sought employment and found work with Carter Miller, an old resident and pioneer of this county and earned what he could to help support his mother and the other children while his father and brothers were fighting to save the union. On the 9th day of July, 1874, he was untited in marriage to Mary E. Bennett, who passed away on the 31st day of March, 1880. To this union were born three children, Orpha E. Dotts of Chariton, Iowa, and Dora Blakely and Ida M. Wolf who preceded him in death. On December 3rd, 1883, Mr. Wolf was again untited in marriage to Callie S. Morrett and to this union were born seven children: Ethie E., Harlie C., Roy L., E. Fern, Hazel, Reece and Kitty. Ethie E., Harlie C. and Reece preceded him in death and he is survived by his wife and children, Orpha E. Dotts of Chariton, Iowa, Fern Lees of Bothell, Washington, Kitty Stirling of Denver, Colorado, Roy L. Wolf and Hazel Cox of Corydon, Iowa, two brothers, James W. Wolf of Knoxville, Iowa, and Henry Wolf of Durkee, Oregon, eight grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. Mr. Wolf grew to manhood in Union township, this county, where he farmed extensively until 1901 when he moved to Corydon, where in 1904 he engaged in the furniture business and from 1904 until his health failed him in 1923, he led an sctive and successful business life in the furniture business at Corydon. In 1923 he was compelled on account of his health to retire from business and turned it over to his son, Roy L. Wolf who is still engaged in the business and enjoying the confidence and faith of the people which his father had so well established. Mr. Wolf was a charter member of the Odd Fellows Lodge at New York, Iowa, and was always an active member until his health failed him. After his health failed in 1923 his illness increased with his age until his passing. During all the time of his failing health he maintained his happy and cheerful disposition and all that loving hands could do for him was done. Mr. Wolf lived in this communtiy and vicinity all of his seventy-five years, except the first. His life is an open book. He was a kind hearted man, kind to his family and true to his friends. He was honest and upright in all of relations with men and he could at all times be relied upon. As a citizen he was public spirited and did without stint, lend his aid and did his part in all worthy public enterprises. HIs life is finished. His work among us is ended and to him, and such as he, we of this generation owe a debt of gratitude for the inheritance left us. To leave us such an inheritance. In the circumscribed limits within which he lived, he did his full part.
