Frederick Arthur Gross (she used "K" as her initial once she was married to Fred, she didn't like the name "Mae" and dropped the "h" on Sarah). Sarah & Fred had 4 children, but little Richard Earl Gross died at only 10 days old (3 sons and 1 daughter). -Audrey Lenore (1910-1985), m. James Wade Murphy, 3 children (1 son and 2 daughters) Chronological history: Jacob was born in Santa Rosa, Sonoma County, CA. on July 9, 1866 or 1867. In the 1870 census enumerated on July 8th, Jacob is living in Santa Rosa, CA with his parents and brother David Edward. On the 4 June 1880 census, the family is now living in Lakeport, CA. and 4 more children have joined the family. Jacob is 13, David is 11, Georgiana is 8, Ada is 6, Lemuel is 4 and Frank is 1. There is no 1890 census. In 1891 (on March 26th), Jacob and Grace Ella Russell are married in the Presbyterian Church with Pastor Edwin Hart Jenks officiating. The 1900 census is enumerated on June 14th and Jacob's family is now living on Main Street in Kelseyville. The family is made up of 4 children with a set of fraternal twins named after their paternal grandparents, Seth and Sarah Keithly. Glenn is the oldest son born after a sister who lived only 3 days. Blanche is next and then the twins. Jacob is listed as a teamster in the census, and he would take his wagon and horses over Hopland Grade. The 1910 census, enumerated on May 5th, has another child added to the family. Audrey was born and Clara B. Hastain is a servant living in the Keithly home. Jacob is listed as a fruit farmer. The 1920 census (no date listed) has only Seth and Audrey remaining at home. Seth is a laborer on the home farm and Audrey is attending school. The 1930 census has the family on 7th Street in Kelseyville (this is curious as they are living on 3rd Street in 1940, but after Jacob and Grace died the house was eventually moved to 7th Street). Jacob is listed as a truck driver (I have seen him and the truck in a photo) and Audrey is listed as a bookkeeper for a fruit packing shed (possibly her brother, Glenn's?) The 1940 census (enumerated April 6th) has Jacob and Grace living in Kelseyville (on the north east corner of 3rd and Church Streets. Jacob is listed as proprietor of W-R Feedstore. My mother would say that he was so used to driving a wagon with a set of horses that he would be yelling "whoa" and pulling back on the steering wheel for the truck to stop - often running into the high cement curb of the sidewalk - oh my!! Good thing speed was not an issue in those times. Jacob was not a tall man. He was listed as 5' 8" in his voter registration on the 27th of September 1892. His other features were listed as light complexion and hair and blue eyes. At 26 years of age his occupation was listed as teamster and he had a scar on his left thumb.
