Description	:	Jacob Baker New Cumberland, January 24- This community was shocked on Wednesday, January 22nd, at 4:00 p.m., when death called from our midst an aged and respected citizen in the person of Jacob Baker who would have been 81 years old had he lived until April 5th. Deceased had been confined to his bed about three weeks with flu and having a weak heart suffered a severe attack from which he pased away. He leaves to mourn their loss a sorrowing wife, formerly Elmore Corkum of this place; four daughters, (Louise) Mrs. Edward Corkum of Lake Centre; (Emily) Mrs. Cornelius Corkum of Worcester, Mass.; Mrs. Dorothy Myers of Downey, Cal.; (Clara) Mrs. Manson Corkum of Pleasantville; one son, Donald, of this place; and six grand-children. One child died in infancy. A short service was held at the home on Friday at 2:00 p.m. From thence the remains were taken to the United Church, Mount Pleasant, of which deceased was a valued member and service was conducted by Rev. L.D. McDonald of Bridgewater, who spoke very comforting words to the bereaved family. Hymns sung were, at the house, "Rock of Ages;" at the church, "The Sands of Time are Sinking," "Where High the Heavenly Temple Stands," "Saviour Breathe an Evening Blessing," and " Glory to Thee My God This Night," the last being a special request. Pall-bearers were Messrs. Stephen Minick, Stephen Corey, Phillip Corkum, and Reboam Corkum. Interment took place in Lakeview Cemetery, Mount Pleasant. With thanks to Rosemary Rafuse.
