Mr. Berger died Thursday, April 6, 1933, after an illness of several months, due to infirmities of his age, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C.L. Brown. He would have reached the age of 80 years had he lived until the 22nd of next month. Jacob Berger was born May 22, 1853, at New Portage, Ohio, and since 1877 has been a resident of this vicinity, residing in Perry and Liberty townships where he farmed for many years, and was widely known in the part of the county. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge at Melbourne and had many friends who regret his demise. Mr. Berger was united in marriage in 1882 to Rebecca Atkin and to this union seven children were born, of whom all survive excepting one daughter, Mable, who died in 1903. In 1916 Mr. and Mrs. Berger retired from the farm and moved to Sioux City where they made their home until Mrs. Berger’s death which took place April 25, 1930, and since that time he has made his home in Hinton with his daughter, Mrs. Clyde Brown and family. Surviving are three sons, George, William and Walter of Hinton; three daughters, Mrs. Clyde Brown of Hinton, Mrs. Sadie March of White River, S.D., and Mrs. Wesley Brown of Merrill; 13 grandchildren; one brother, Martin Berger of Climax, Mich.; and two sisters, Mrs. Anna Martin of Scotts, Mich., and Katie Schneider of Barberton, Ohio. The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Methodist church in Hinton, with the pastor, Rev. W.E. Ellison, officiating. Burial was made in the Liberty township cemetery, with members of the Melbourne I.O.O.F. Lodge conducting the rites at the grave side.
