Description	:	Mr. Berschied, whose life started before the close of the Civil War, was born near Mendota, Ill., Aug. 27,1864. In February 1882 he moved to Dakota Territory with his parents to Yorktown near what is now White Lake. He helped build the sod shanty in which they lived and tells of digging wells with a spade at a dollar a foot for the new settlers. Mr. Berschied describes the snow storm of 1888 and how he and Mr. Ginner returning from purchasing supplies in White Lake were caught by the January storm. They spent a full day buried in a snowbank. He has two daughters, Alice and Agnes, and four sons, John George, Matt and Art, He also has 26 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren.
