(From Tuesday's Daily) Jacob Fike, an old resident of Orange township, died at 8:00 o'clock this morning at the home of his son, Samuel, five miles south of this city, at the advanced age of 81 yeas, 1 month and 18 days. The deceased was born in Somerset county, Pa., February 13, 1821. On May 8, 1842, he was married to Elizabeth Blough, who survives him, after nearly sixty years of wedded life together. In the year 1869 they moved to Black hawk county and settled in Orange township, on the farm in the southwest quarter of section 28, where they have sine made their home and where death occurred this morning. Three sons and four daughters have been born to them, all of whom are living but one daughter, Lizzie, who died September 2, 1871, at the age of 18. The sons are: C. J., who resides at Nez Percez [sic], Idaho; John, of Waterloo, and Samuel, who lives on the old home farm in Orange. The surviving daughters are: Mrs. Sallie Lohr, Bedford county, Pa.; Mrs. Susan Grady and Mrs. W. A. Blough, of Orange. Other descendants of the deceased are thirty-three grand-children and ten great grand children. Mr. Fike united with the German Baptist church in 1844, and for 58 years has been a consistent member of that connection. His funeral will take place at the church of which he was a member at Orange Center on Thursday, April 3 at 10:00 o'clock a. m., conducted by the Rev. A. P. Blough. Interment will be in the grave yard near the church. Death was due to old age. Mr. Fike has been bedfast for about three weeks, but has suffered no pain, the only sign of the approaching end being that each day the life forces seemed to act more feebly until the heart stopped beating and breathing ceased. -Semi Weekly Iowa State Reporter, Waterloo, Iowa (4 Apr 1902) April 8'Last Tuesday morning at 3:30 occurred the death Jacob Fike at the home of his son Samuel; old age was the principal cause of this death.
