Mr. Bowman was born on June 17, 1927, in El Paso, Texas, son of the late Dr. Jacob Carroll Bowman Sr. and Alma Irdene Yates Bowman. Mr. Bowman was raised in Mount Airy, N.C. Read More	Mr. Jacob Carroll "Jake" Bowman Jr., age 72, of 129 Greenbrier Drive, Radford, Va., husband of Shirley Johnson Bowman, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, at his home. Mr. Bowman was born on June 17, 1927, in El Paso, Texas, son of the late Dr. Jacob Carroll Bowman Sr. and Alma Irdene Yates Bowman. Mr. Bowman was raised in Mount Airy, N.C. He received his Aircraft Ratings at Dallas Aviation School in Dallas, Texas, and attended The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. He was in the Naval Air Corps. He was of the Episcopal faith. In Mount Airy, he operated Jake Bowman Stables. In 1964, he moved to Greenville, and in 1975, he moved to Anderson, where he was owner and director of operations of Bowman Aviation, Inc., dba, Bo-S-Aire Airlines. After retiring in 1989, he built and operated Flying B. Ranch. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Johnson Bowman of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley Bowman Miller and Dr. Donald Miller of Radford, Va.; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Arthur Allen Bowman of Charlotte, and Steven Hill Lee and Mary Beth Bowman of Inverness, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Erdene Bowman Roundtree of Wilmington, N.C. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bowman was preceded in death by a son, Jacob Carroll "Beau" Bowman III. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel of Mount Airy, conducted by the Rev. Stanrod Carmichael, with burial to follow in Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at Moody Funeral Home Chapel, where his body will remain until the hour of the service. Flowers will be accepted.
