On Feb. 5, 1879, he was united in marriage to Ellen Erwin, who departed this life March 14, 1931. He leaves to mourn his death their sons, John of Toddville, Jake of Marion and Ollie of Toddville; also 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Abraham of Oelwein and two half-brothers, John Bowers of Toddville and Joseph Cline of Cedar Rapisd, and one half-sister, Ella Ottermer of Cedar Falls. Mr. Bowers worked most of his life for the Rock Island railroad. A few years ago he was retired with a pension by the railroad. It was not long after his retirement that he suffered a stroke, rendering one arm and other parts of his body helpless. This, together with other complication, resulted in his death. Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ, conducted by W.C. Wilson.
