Mr. Kirsch had been in failing health since last fall and for a week prior to his death had been hospitalized at the Dodge County hospital at Fremont, where his death occurred. Jacob D. Kirsch was born September 20, 1861, at Lowell, Ohio, and died April 11, 1942, at Fremont, at the age of 80 years, 7 months, and 21 days. He came to Hooper from his native state in 1885, remaining here but a short time before going to Keya Paha County, where other members of his family had settled and where he lived on a homestead until 1887 when he came to make Hooper his home for the remainder of his life. On January 19, 1891, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Henneman, the couple observing their 50th wedding anniversary only last year in 1941. During his 55 years of residence in this community, Mr. Kirsch engaged in a variety of occupations which included that of farming, labor in the mason trade and for 18 years being employed by the former Nye, Schneider, Fowler Company before its sale to the Joyce Lumber firm. For three years he was janitor of the Hooper school when there was but the one building in the school plant, a position he gave up to become manager of the Latta Grain Company for five years and then back as caretaker at the grade school building for a period of 16 years, making 19 years in all which his work with the schools until his retirement at the close of the school term less than a years ago. He was a member of the Hooper school board for a period of years and for 29 years up until the time of his death he served on the board of directors of the Hooper Building and Loan association. Surviving to honor the memory and to mourn the loss of their husband and father are his wife and three daughters, Miss Alta Kirsch, teacher in the Kearney High School; Mrs. Walter McCrann of Hawarden, Iowa, and mrs. Frank A. Roberts of San Francisco, California. he is also survived by one granddaughter, Christie Roberts and by a brother and sister, Chris Kirsch and Mrs. F. L. Thiede, both of Burton. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from Grace Lutheran Church with REV. W. W. Alexander as the minister in charge.
