| Description | : | Jacob was a naturalized citizen in 1846, and was in the US Army 3rd Artillery; was in many battles in the Mexican War. After the Mexican War he reenlisted in the Third U.S. Artillery and on Christmas Eve 1853 the troops boarded the steamship "San Francisco" bound for California; there were 1100 aboard including his new bride. They encounted a sever storm at midnight off of Sandy Hook, New Jersey and there were three hundred people swept overboard and drowned.
