He went to his eternal home on May 21, 2014 having reached the age of 92 years 6 months, and 3 days. He married Susie Maggie Mendel on May 19, 1946. They were married for 38 years. He married Susie Maggie Mendel on May 19, 1946. They were married for 38 years. To this union was born two sons Jules David and Elgin J. Following Susie's death in 1984, Jacob married Phoebe Wiebe Jost and they were married for 15 years. Dad grew up in a family where hard work, determination, and accomplishment were valued. Although his education ended after 6 weeks of high school, he valued education and was determined to see that both of his sons received an education. He considered his service in CPS camp as his "college education" and talked often about the life shaping experience he had doing his IW service first in Belton, Montana and then Dennison, Iowa. Personal faith and assurance of salvation were very important to Dad. Because he could not remember a time and place where he made a decision to follow Jesus, his assurance of salvation was very important to him. Daily in family devotions around the breakfast table and later when he would pray as the family departed, he would thank The Lord that he knew he was saved and would remind The Lord of his belief in Jesus and what he had done on the cross for our sins, and that the Bible said "That if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." Dad had a big heart, valued peace, and wanted clear relationships. When someone he knew was in need or trouble, everything was dropped and care and attention was given to the person. If they had done wrong, helping them do right was on the top on his agenda. When there was disagreement, reconciliation was important. He was quick to apologize, quick to show compassion, and quick to say thank you. When Dad believed in something or someone, his passion was strong and his determination was unwavering. Excellence and right living were very important to him. Honoring ones word, integrity, and family honor were important life commitments that he insisted were part of the family value system. Dad also loved to have fun, play tricks, and tease people. His drawer of "magic tricks" was a highlight for many who visited our home. Teasing people and giving them a "hard time" was part of his way of building relationships with those close to him. He often lamented later in life how he wished we had done more "fun things" as a family besides only working hard. Dad and Mom farmed their entire life on a farm southwest of Emery. After Mom died in 1984, he married Phoebe who joined him on the farm. When they retired in 1996, they moved to Freeman. Some time after Phoebe's death, he moved in to the Salem Home and then to Oakview Terrace. On May 20 the doctor discovered that he had a very low blood count and had in recent days had a heart attack. On the morning of May 21, he awoke, asked for something to drink and eat. When the nurses came back, he had silently and peacefully went to be with Jesus in his heavenly home. He leaves to mourn his two sons and their spouses and families including five grandchildren and their spouses and 9 great grand children. Jules and Peg Todd Glanzer of Hillsboro, KS. Preceding him in death were wife Susie and wife Phoebe, brothers and their wives Joe and Katie, Sam and Sarah, and Paul and Gladys and sister and her husband Barbara and John Szusz, and brother-in-law David Wipf.
