Of this praiseworthy contingent the name of Jacob Faust is worthy of special mention here. Mr. Faust was born in Ernsthausen, Hessen-Cassel, Germany, on August 17, 1842. He is the son of Henry and Christina (Holzapfel) Faust. He grew to maturity in his native land and was educated there, spending his early life on the farm. In 1867 he married Anna Gertie Imhoff, who was born and grew up in his native community. She was the daughter of Johannes and Elizabeth (Hesse) Imhoff. Eleven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Faust, of this review, named as follows: Lizzie is the wife of Fred Siekman, of Tipton township, whose sketch is to be found in this work. Anna married Herman K. Granner, who is also represented in this work. Jacob Faust, Jr., lived west of Hubbard on his farm; Henry is a minister in the Evangelical church and lives at Waterloo; Conrad lives in Sherman township, this county, where he has his own farm; Louisa is the wife of Rev. George Bergeman, an Evangelical minister at Ackley, Iowa; Bessie is the wife of Fred Nassen, and they live in Tipton township; Rena is the wife of George Nassen, and lives in Hubbard; Clouse is unmarried and lives at home; Emma is also a member of the family circle; she is the only one of the these children to be born in America, the other ten having been born in Germany. Some of them came to the United States before the father, John having made his advent at Hubbard six years prior to that time; Anna came in 1877, and Lizzie the following year. Mr. Faust has devoted his life to agricultural pursuits and he owned a small farm in Germany. Early in life he learned the blacksmith's trade and followed that for some time in his native land. Not being able to get the foothold in his own country he desired or deserved, considering his hardworking habits and honest methods, he emigrated to America in September, 1890, and bought a farm in the southwestern part of Tipton township, Hardin county, Iowa, where he has since resided. He has a fine farm of one hundred and seventy-two acres, well improved and well tilled and he as a nice home and has never had occasion to regret his coming to the new world.
