Description	:	The Piedmont Herald, Sept 28, 1900 - Mr Jacob Forthman, an old and highly respected citizen, died suddenly Monday Sept. 24, 1900, aged 77 years. Mr Forthman had been ill for several years and totally blind for the past three. He was out in his garden of which he was very fond years ago, went into the house, set down on a lounge and expired without any warning whatsoever. Read More	The Piedmont Herald, Sept 28, 1900 - Mr Jacob Forthman, an old and highly respected citizen, died suddenly Monday Sept. 24, 1900, aged 77 years. Mr Forthman had been ill for several years and totally blind for the past three. He was out in his garden of which he was very fond years ago, went into the house, set down on a lounge and expired without any warning whatsoever. He was born in Sonneberg, Saxe Meiningen, Germany March 1823. He came to Philadelphia when a small boy. When he was 16 years of age he was sent back to Germany to learn the confectionary business. In 1857, he went to Grafton to live and in 1861 he moved to Piedmont where he has resided ever since. The funeral took place Wednesday from Mt Calvary Lutheran church, Rev. S. M. Engle officiating, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, Rev. Luther Miller his pastor being away. The deceased leaves two daughters and three sons, his wife having died June 20, 1890, to mourn their loss. They are Mrs L. A. Johnson of this place; Mrs E. J. Sigler of Barton; Charles C. Forthman of Chicago; Alfred A. Forthman of Sykesville, Md.; and J. Wm. Forthman of this place, all of whom were at the funeral except Charles, who could not get here. The other relatives who attended were Mrs Laura Thompson of Martinsburg, and Mr E. J. Sigler of Barton.
