He was the husband of Betty J. (Hoover) Shaffer to whom he was married over 62 years. His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hanover Wesleyan Church, 200 South St., Hanover with his pastor, the Rev. Jerry Beers officiating. He will be assisted by the Rev. Viewings will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Irwin Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 175 N. Main St., Spring Grove and from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hanover Wesleyan Church. Burial will follow in Jefferson Cemetery. Mr. Shaffer was born January 4, 1924, in North Codorus Township, a son of the late Raymond J. and Mabel E. (Cornbower) Shaffer. He retired in 1987 from the Shipping Department of P.H. Glatfelter Company in Spring Grove after 31 years of service, where he was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He also worked many years as a local dairy and chicken farmer. Following retirement from Glatfelter he was employed for 10 years as a driver for Lincoln Bus Lines and the Southwestern School District. He was an active member of Hanover Wesleyan Church where he served as a member of the Board of Directors and also as the church treasurer. In addition to his loving wife Betty, Mr. Shaffer will be missed by four sons; Charles L. and Linda Shaffer of Jefferson, Gerald L. and Barbara Shaffer of Hanover, Marvin F. and Bonita Shaffer of Porters Sideling, and Bryan D. and Pamela Shaffer of Seven Valleys; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren; three brothers, Kenneth M. Shaffer of Hanover, Clyde E. Shaffer and Donald R. Shaffer both of Seven Valleys; and a sister, Ruthanna Rohrbaugh of Seven Valleys. Mr. Shaffer was preceded in death by twin grandsons in 1983.
