He died at his home in Muscatine, Iowa, No. 1017 Iowa Avenue,Aug. 23, 1911. In June, 1854, he came to this country in company with his brother, Louis, coming directly to Muscatine. Sept. 21, 1857, he was united in marriage by Rev. Oberman to Miss Caroline Schnell, who died Oct. 4, 1892. To this union were born seven children, five of whom survive him, as follows : Mrs. Fred Kaufman, Cedar county, Iowa; Peter Freyermuth, St.Louis, Mo.; H. J. Freyermuth,Muscatine county, and the Misses Lena and Sophia, at home. Two sons, Louis and George, preceded him in death. He is also survived by three brothers, one sister and thirteen grandchildren. The brothers are, Louis Freyermuth, of Madison, Neb.; Henry Freyermuth, of Muscatine, Iowa; Adam Freyermuth, Elsace, Germany, and Mrs. Christiana Eberhardt, of the same place. On coming to Muscatine he became associated with the Hershey Lumber company, serving as manager of the shingle department of that firm for eighteen years. Later he moved on his farm, five and one half miles north of Muscatine on the Tipton road, where he resided until the fall of 1902, when owing to poor health he moved to Muscatine, where he was tenderly cared for by his two daughters until the end came. In the fall of 1893 he made a visit back to his native home, bringing with him two young nieces and a nephew, two of whom he gave a home until they were grown. Jacob Freyermuth was an honest, upright, industrious man, always making the Golden Rule the motto of his life, and enjoyed the respect and confidence of all his friends and associates. In 1856 he became a member of the German Evangelical church. The funeral was held Saturday, Aug. 26, 1911, from the German Evangelical church, Rev. Jans officiating. The Mechanic's Aid society, of whom he was a charter member, had charge of the funeral. The pallbearers were Messrs. Chris Werner, Peter Stineman, Louis Angersbach, Werner Wittich, John Appel, and Herman Tadewald.
