Read More	The Hudsonite, Hudson, South Dakota March 1921 Jacob Gearhart Jensen, one of the oldest residents of South Western Eden township died on the old homestead on Tuesday of last week, aged a little over 81 years. He was born at Strandval, Norway, on Feb. 2, 1840. He was married to Miss Ingeborg Anna Sandnes on April 26, 1869, and they came to Sioux City in May of the same year, and in August that year they came up here and moved on the old homestead where he spent the rest of his days, and where he sank peacefully to rest when the end came Tuesday. There he and his good wife went through all the privations of pioneer life, there they raised a fine family of sons and daughters, and there they made many good friends, for they were fine people, hospitable, kindly folks, the best of good neighbors. During the last three or four years Mr. Jensen has been very feeble, being bedfast most of the time, and his wife and daughters and his sons gave him every tender care, and his last days were made as happy and as comfortable as possible. The writer has known the family for thirty six years, and he too has learned to appreciate, to respect and to esteem this splendid old pioneer. During the last few years, Gearhart has been running the farm, relieving his aging father of all responsibility. Deceased leaves besides his wife, who has been his constant, faithful loving companion for over 52 years, three sons and five daughters, and a number of grandchildren, and many other relatives and a host of good friends to mourn his loss. Several brothers and sisters, living in the old country also survive him. The children are Mrs. Hassett and Mrs. Ed Anderson of Inwood, Mrs. Julia Leighty of University Park, Iowa, John of Geddes, S.D., Gearhart and Miss Anna, who lived at home, and James who lives on the next farm, and Miss Hilda, who has had to live in Colorado on account of her health. Miss Anna has also been ill in bed for the past three weeks with sciatic rheumatism, and is very ill at the present time. Funeral services were held at Trinity church on Sunday afternoon, a brief service being first held at the home. Rev. Daleside preached a very fine sermon, and the big church could hardly hold all the mourners gathered to pay their last sad respects to a man whom they loved and honored through life. He was laid to rest in the Trinity cemetery. All the children were present at the funeral. Among the relatives from other places present at the funeral were Daniel Leighty who is a student at Dakota Wesleyan, at Mitchell, Jacob and Miss Jennie Sandnes, and Gust Jensen, who live over near Worthing, there also being a host of pioneer friends present from every part of the county. Thus was another good man gathered to his fathers, after a long, well lived, useful life. He was one of the men who helped make this country what it is, and the highest respect and esteem of the whole community was his. Of whom can one say more?
