Description	:	Mr. Jacob Gosden was 85 when he died in the first week of April 1903. Mr. Gosden was born at Walton on the Thames, England, June 22, 1827. While a young man he was in charge of Lord Sutton’s horses and always accompanied the parties on their hunting exceptions. He cared for any horse that was injured or hurt in a race. Read More	Mr. Jacob Gosden was 85 when he died in the first week of April 1903. Mr. Gosden was born at Walton on the Thames, England, June 22, 1827. While a young man he was in charge of Lord Sutton’s horses and always accompanied the parties on their hunting exceptions. He cared for any horse that was injured or hurt in a race. Jacob served for three years in the English Calvary, acting as assistant to the head of veterinarian of the regiment. In May 1852, he immigrated to America, purchasing a farm in Hazel Valley where he resided until1884. After retiring from the farm, Jacob moved to Farley, living here until the time of his death. * Mr. Gosden with his wife Ann Rice Gosden (1822-1898) had four daughters and one son: Elizabeth Rosa, Fannie (was a practicing osteopath-using the family residence as an office); Mrs. Mary A. Rogers; Mrs. Emily Kissinger; and Henry. Mr. Gosden was active in St. George’s Church, holding the position of Senior Warden for three years. Burial was made in Fairview Cemetery. *Home is located at the N. E. corner of 4th Ave. N. E. and 3rd Street. Cascade; born near London, England, June 22, 1817; came to America and settled in Dubuque Co., Iowa, in May 1852; his farm consists of 220 acres in Secs. 7, 8 and 18, Whitewater Township, and Secs. 12 and 13, Cascade Township; his farming business includes the raising of stock of all kinds, and he has an unequaled reputation as a veterinary surgeon; his practice in this profession extends twenty, thirty, and even forty miles from his home; the fine horses on his farm testify to his love of this noble animal, of whose disposition and ailments he has such accurate knowledge. Mr. G. is a member of the Episcopal Church; in politics, his leading principle is to vote for the best men for official positions.
