Rev. Fred W. Pahl officiated. Mr. Sayler was born in South Russia in 1881 and was a pioneer resident of the Hilda district. CARD OF THANKS Mrs. Katherina Sayler and family wish to thank their friends for the many kind expressions of sympathy shown and for the beautiful flower sent during their recent bereavement. ============================ Jacob Heinrich SAYLER born 17 November 1881 at Johannestal, Beresan, Odessa, South Russia, was the son of Mathaeus SAYLER and Anna Apollonia BOHLENDER. At the age of 21 Jacob H SAYLER with his bride of 1 month Katherina, left their homeland of Johannestal, Beresan, Odessa, South Russia and boarded the SS "Cassel" on the 28th of November 1902 at the Port of Bremen, Germany and arrived at Ellis Island, New York on the 8th of December 1902. Their final destination as per the ship's manifest, recorded as Eureka, McPherson County, South Dakota to join Jacob's older half-brother Andreas SAYLER and family. While residing in the USA the "1910 US Federal Census" revealed that Jacob H SAYLER homesteaded 155.05 acres about 16 miles N, NE of Mott, North Dakota in Odessa Township. Additional research at the "Hettinger County Courthouse" in Mott revealed that Jacob H SAYLER also purchased the SW ¼ of Sec 17, Twp 136, Rge 91, W5 for the sum of $1,297.42 on the 8th of February 1910. Further investigation also revealed a deed that confirmed Jacob & Katharina sold their Odessa Twp, Hettinger County, North Dakota 315.05 acre farm just prior to immigrating to Canada on the 14th of March 1913 to Frank Rohusek for $1.00 (no explanation recorded)! Immediate family in Benjamin SAYLER and cemetery searches revealed that two of their children Rudolph #1 and Oscar died in North Dakota. Their niece Carol SAYLER personally confirmed both were buried on land surrounded by the Jacob H SAYLER homestead within the "Neuburg Congregational Church Cemetery" located 15 miles north and 8 miles east of Mott, Hettinger County, North Dakota or at GPS coordinates Lat: 46.5887N, Long: -102.1561W. After 10 plus years and six children later the SAYLERs traveled by train to Hatton, Saskatchewan. Along with their few worldly possessions they brought four horses & two cows and spent the latter part of 1913 on the farm of Henry MAIER, a friend of the SAYLERs. In 1914 they continued on to Hilda, Alberta and a year's stay with the Edward KECK's. The spring of 1915 found them on the Katherina NETH homestead. From there Jacob SAYLER built a home and broke land on his own homestead on the SE ¼ of Sec 31, Twp 18, Rge 29, W3.
