Description	:	Dr. Jacob H. Besore, a Civil War Veteran, passed away on Jan. 2, 1926. He had been born in Fulton County, Pa., August 29, 1843. He was buried in the Ida Grove, Ida County, Iowa Cemetery. He was 83 years, 4 months, and 3 days old. His early years were spent on a farm. When the Civil War broke out, it soon found him enrolled in the 12th Maryland Infantry, having enlisted at Hagerstown, Md. He served in the campaigns around the Potomac and Harpers Ferry. In 1867, he left Pennsylvania. He was married at Sandusky,... Read More	Dr. Jacob H. Besore, a Civil War Veteran, passed away on Jan. 2, 1926. He had been born in Fulton County, Pa., August 29, 1843. He was buried in the Ida Grove, Ida County, Iowa Cemetery. He was 83 years, 4 months, and 3 days old. His early years were spent on a farm. When the Civil War broke out, it soon found him enrolled in the 12th Maryland Infantry, having enlisted at Hagerstown, Md. He served in the campaigns around the Potomac and Harpers Ferry. In 1867, he left Pennsylvania. He was married at Sandusky, Ohio, March 24, 1867, to Jemima Sherrick with whom he lived happily for nearly 60 years. To this union four sons were born, Earl C., Calvin F., Walter M, and Albert L. He is survived by his widow and all sons, except, Earl C. In traveling westward, the Besore's made their home for awhile in Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois, settling in eastern Iowa in 1873. He graduated from dental department of the University of Iowa in 1884, being a member of the second class to complete the course in that school. In 1885, he came to Ida Grove, Iowa, and lived there continuously since that time. He was made a Mason in 1870 at Bangor, MI., and transferred his membership to Ida Grove, Iowa, July 10, 1886. He became a member of the Odd Fellows order in the late sixties. As a hobby, Dr. Besore frequently made Shrine emblems from gold, and one of these was presented to President Harding, who acknowledged its receipt with a very cordial letter. In January 1918, he was presented with the magnificent Past Master's Jewel which he wore when his last photo was taken. On August 29, 1918, the resident members of Masonic Fraternity gathered at his home and fittingly observed his 75th birthday. During the past summer in company with his son, Dr. C. F.
