(Source: Ohio, Compiled Marriage Index) ============================================= The Reveille-New Era (Hill City, KS), Thursday, January 24, 1918; pg. 1 In Memorium Jacob Higer was born in Coshocton County, Ohio, June 3rd, 1837. He departed this life at the home of his son Will, near Penokee, Kansas, January 19th, 1918, aged 80 years, 7 months and 16 days. Death came after a long period of illness which had its beginning in his home at Superior, Nebraska. After a short funeral service at the home of his son, Wm. Higer, the body, was taken to Superior, Nebraska, for interment. Mr. Higer was cristened (sic) in the Methodist church in infancy and in his long, vigorous, useful life he has ever been a good neighbor, a faithful father and a friend to man. In early life he was united in marriage to Barbara Benjamine and to this union were born ten children. Three of the children and his faithful wife preceded him into the other land. The devoted wife passed from this life exactly seven years before him. He is survived by seven children as follows: Mrs. Chas. Webster, Mrs. Thos. Murphy, Mrs. Minnie Berry (sic), George, William, Floyd and Carl Higer. All but one of the children were at the bedside when the summons came. Brother Higer, in his long, useful life made many friends by his upright life and sterling qualities. He will be greatly missed in the community that has so long been his home.
