Description	:	The son of Samuel & Sarah (Brindle) Dietrich, in 1860 he was a farm laborer living with his family in St. Thomas Township, Franklin County, Pennsylvania. A Civil War veteran, he first enlisted and mustered into federal service at Harrisburg April 20, 1861, as a private with Co. C, 2nd Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company July 24, 1861. He then enlisted in Chambersburg August 9, 1862, mustered into federal service there August 18 as a private with Co. H, 126th Pennsylvania Infantry, promoted to sergeant, and honorably discharged with his company May 20, 1863. He... A Civil War veteran, he first enlisted and mustered into federal service at Harrisburg April 20, 1861, as a private with Co. C, 2nd Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company July 24, 1861. He then enlisted in Chambersburg August 9, 1862, mustered into federal service there August 18 as a private with Co. H, 126th Pennsylvania Infantry, promoted to sergeant, and honorably discharged with his company May 20, 1863. He next enlisted and mustered into federal service at Mt. Union, Franklin County, July 1, 1863, as a corporal with the six-month organization of Co. E, 20th Pennsylvania Cavalry (181st Pa). He is in the company register as "Detrick." He honorably discharged December 29, 1863, to re-enlist for three years which he did in East Hempfield Township, Lancaster County, January 29, 1864, and mustered into federal service in Harrisburg that same day as a private with the three-year organization of Co. A, 20th Pennsylvania Cavalry. He is in the Co. A register as "Dietrick." On February 16, 1864, he mustered as captain of Co. D, 20th Pennsylvania Cavalry, and is in that company's register as "Deatrick." (Despite the spelling variations, there is no question these all refer to the same man.) He honorably discharged with a portion of his company June 26, 1865, at Clouds Mills, Virginia. Between enlistments, he married Martha Jane Haulman and fathered Mary Ellen "Ellie" (b. @1864), Carrie Lyona (b. @1866), Sarah Anne (b. @1868), Kittie (b. @1870), J. Strock (b. @1872), Lillian Myrtle (b. 02/02/76), Van Haulman (b. 05/07/79), John (b. 09/13/83), Martha Pearl "Mattie" (b. 12/14/84), and Ethel Faye (b. 01/20/89 - married Fred B. Hickman). In 1875, he applied for a pension from Washington DC, but by 1876 was living with his family in Kansas, although it appears he may have resided in Iowa and returned to Kansas.
