Martha (Dye) Davis was a daughter of Benjamin & Amelia Dye and a sister of Jacob Dye. ~~~~~~~ Jacob Dye Pioneer Settler Died at his Home Sunday March 18th Jacob Dye, departed this life Sunday morning, March 18, 1928, at his home in Scotland County, Missouri where he was born, having resided at this place for over 85 years. In the year 1868 he was united in marriage to Amelia Teter. To this union 11 children were born, Mary F., Martha E., Mildred J., William E., B. Frank, Jesse S., Grover, DeLoss, Lotie B., Alta and Reta. Uncle Jake as he was usually called was one of our pioneer citizens. He lived at a time when it took sturdy manhood and much courage to overcome and meet with obstacles that presented themselves to the early pioneers of the county. The land had to be cleared and timber roads built, and school houses to be erected. In this work he always lent a helping hand. There are a number of young men of this county whom he encouraged and helped to get a start in life. He was of a jovial disposition, never the turn of mind to complain. He was always ready to cheer people and looked upon the bright side of life. In his last days he bore his suffering without a murmur. We owe a great deal of respect to these aged citizens who have handed down to us such a rich heritage. Let us home their lives by being honorable and upright citizens, true to our country and just to our government. It can truly be said he was a kind husband and affectionate father and good neighbor. There remains to mourn his departure, his beloved wife, and the following named children: Mrs. Sig See of Rutledge; Mrs. Martha Arnold, Gorin; Mrs. Price Tombs of York, Nebraska; Mrs. Clarence Feltman , Highwood, Montana; Mrs. Martin Cull, Battle Creek, Colorado; Edgar B., Frank, Jesse Dye, Grover, and DeLoss all of Arbela. Twenty two grandchildren, three great grandchildren. Three sisters, Mrs. Jane Rice, Mrs. Seth Black, both of Gorin, and Mrs. Emma Thomas of Arbela, Missouri. Funeral services were conducted at the house on Monday, March 19, 1928, at 2:30 p.m. The remains were tenderly laid to rest in the Etna Cemetery.
