He struck the ground with such force that his skull was fractured. he never regained consciousness and died Tuesday from the effects of the fall. One Dead, the Other Frozen. On that stormy Friday Jan. 11, Jacob Michaels living three miles below Elgin was thrown from his wagon when nearing his home by his team running away. His skull was fractured, but he lingered along until the Tuesday following, when he died. Funeral services were held at the Catholic church in Clermont and the remains were interred in the Catholic cemetery there.
