DICUS Pioneer of the Palouse - Veteran of the Civil War Another pioneer has gone to that bourne from whence no traveler returns. Jacob N. Dicus, a pioneer of the Palouse country, died Monday, aged 72 years and 17 days. Mr. Dicus had been sick for some time and his death was expected. His three children living at Soldier, Idaho - Grant Dicus, Frank Dicus and Mrs. Nellie Wilcox - have been here for several weeks watching by his bedside and were present at the funeral. Mr. Dicus made his home in this city with his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. R. Dreger, at whose house he died. The funeral took place Tuesday afternoon, Rev. H. B. Elworthy officiating, and was largely attended by many old-time friends and associates. Mr. Dicus was born in Ohio and came to Whitman county in 1886. He was a veteran of the civil war and was in Andersonville prison for a long time. It is said the horrors of that confinement left its impression on all his later years.
