Description	:	J R FAIREY, EX-CALHOUN SENATOR, DIES Fort Motte, Jan 21 - Jacob Risher Fairey, large scale farmer and former Calhoun county senator, died at his home, Midway plantation, near here this afternoon. He had been in declining health for a year. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 o'clock Monday afternoon from St Paul's Methodist cemetery, St Matthews, by the Rev M L Banks, assisted by the Rev J W Cooley and the Rev F L Frazier. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 o'clock Monday afternoon from St Paul's Methodist cemetery, St Matthews, by the Rev M L Banks, assisted by the Rev J W Cooley and the Rev F L Frazier. Mr Fairey was the county's first master farmer. He had extensive farming interests and was one of the first farmers to introduce cattle raising in this area. He was a noted flower lover and the camellia gardens at his home attracted state wide attention. Born near Branchville, Mr Fairey was the son of the late Capt Philip W and Elizabeth Risher Fairey. He was graduated magna cum laude from the University of South Carolina and earned his law degree at the university in 1895 with summa cum laude honors. During his years in public life he was a member of the 1925 state tax research committee, a member of the State Democratic Executive committee and a director of the Farmers and Taxpayers League. He was a member of the Methodist church. Survivors include his widow, the former Miss Kittie Moss of Cameron; five nephews, T W Fairey and George Griffith of St Matthews, Frank Griffith of Elloree, J K Fairey Jr of Bamberg, and Dr T K Fairey of Johnston, and two nieces, Mrs Bessie F Crutchfield of St Matthews and Mrs W F Fair of Orangeburg.
