Coming to Iowa in infancy with his parents, his entire life was spent in Clarke county. He grew to manhood on his father's farm in Troy township and acquired such education as was available in the log cabin schools of this county in pioneer days. Mr. Banker was a teacher in the rural schools for several years. On June 20, 1880 he was united in marriage to Eva Daniel. To this union two children were born, a daughter Famy, who died in childhood, and a son, Joseph N. While engaged in farming Mr. Banker studied law and passed the bar May 11, 1898, whereupon he and his family moved to Osceola where he engaged in the practice of law for many years, serving two terms as county attorney. Following the death of his wife in June, 1922, he made his home with his son for nearly fifteen years. The deceased has been in failing health for a long period of time. Throughout his infirmity he has been kindly and tenderly cared for by his son and daughter-in-law. He was preceded in death by six brothers, his wife and daughter, and leaves to mourn his passing the son, Joseph N. and two sisters, Mrs. Amanda Cook of Murray, Iowa, and Mrs. Harriett Stubblefield of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, also many other relatives and friends. -------------- Jacob S. Banker, 82, well-known Clarke county pioneer, died at his farm near Murray Saturday, following an illness of several years. His entire life had been spent in this county. Funeral services are being held this afternoon from the Webster Funeral home, conducted by Rev. F.C. McCallon of the Church of Christ. Mr. Banker was a member of the Clarke County Bar Association, although he had not been active for a number of years. He served two terms as county attorney. He was born in a covered wagon and was brought to the county by his parents when an infant. He was a close student of Clarke county history and wrote many interesting articles concerning pioneer days. Contributor: Barry Mateer
