Hoffman, retired Chambers rancher, died at the Atkinson Memorial Hospital Monday morning, Sept. 25, at the age of 93 years. Mr. Hoffman was an early settler of the Chambers community and had spent more than 75 years on the place originally homesteaded by his father. Mr. Hoffman was an early settler of the Chambers community and had spent more than 75 years on the place originally homesteaded by his father. Jacob S., Hoffman was born in York county, Pennsylvania October 13, 1867, the eldest child of John and Leah Smith Hoffman. When 9 years of age he came with his family to Parsons, Kansas where they lived until 1884 when the family moved to Holt county. On October 29, 1891 he was married to Eva Keller, also of Chambers. Five children were born to this couple. Mrs. Hoffman died June 22, 1949, and a daughter, Mae, also preceded Mr. Hoffman in death. Mr. Hoffman continued to live on the homeplace until complications of old age and a broken pelvis necessitated hospital care, he spent sometime the O'Neill Hospital and then was transferred to the Stuart Rest Home where he resided until three days before his death. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church for 58 consecutive years. He also was a Sunday school teacher for about 60 years. About five years ago he transferred his membership to the Bethany Presbyterian Church. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs.D.A. Baker, O'Neill, and Mrs. A.F. Thompson, Oakland, Calif.; two sons, Ray, Chambers and Ralph, Ewing; 9 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Mrs. Eva Kennedy, and 1 brother, Peter J. Hoffman, both of Puyallup, Wash.
