Jacob Stadel Sr. was born February 07, 1865, in Beresina, South Russia, and had reached the age of 77 years, ten months and two days. He left his birthplace at the age of 15, right after his confirmation, and made his home in Krim, South Russia, until he reached the age of 21 years. At that time he was called to serve one year in the Russian Army, after which he was dicharged and returned to Hoffnubgstahl. There he was united in marriage to Magdalena Laemmle on January 05, 1889. That same year he and his wife came to this country and settled on a homestead 14 miles southwest of Eureka where they resided for 18 years before moving to a farm ten miles northwest of Java, where they resided until 1928 when they moved to Java to live a retired life. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on January 05, 1939. He had enjoyed good health until last October when he became ill and sonn after became bedfast. During the last three weeks of his life he suffered greatly but never complained. He leaves to mourn him his wife, Magdalena; and eight children, Jacob of north of Java, Fred of Lodi, California, Pauline (Gottlieb) Lutz of Cornelius, Oregon, Magdalena Sieler, Regina (Jacob) Schell, both in California, Mathilda Stadel of Mobridge, Emma (E E) Elshire of Glencross, and Martha (Edmund) Mauch of Selby; 32 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Two children preceded him in death, one in infancy and a daughter, Mrs. Adam Naasz, a number of years ago.
