Jacob SYESTER was born in Berkeley County, West Virginia, on July 4, 1833, and was the son of Jacob and Valinda (Crown) Syester, who were both deceased by 1884. On February 16, 1858, also in that county, he and Rebecca Ward, daughter of Joseph and Mary Ward, were married. She was born in the same county October 3, 1833, and died there March 10, 1878. Jacob and Rebecca Syester had the following children, the first two born in Iowa and the remainder in Berkeley County: Mary V. Syester, January 26, 1859-?; William A. Syester, April 22, 1861-?; John M. Syester, October 4, 1863-?; Andrew J. Syester, August 17, 1866-?; Catherine L. Syester, August 15, 1869-September 5, 1871; and Sallie M. Syester, August 18, 1872-?. Jacob Syester was a justice of the peace for the Falling Waters district, elected to that position in 1881 for four years. He served his district as a member of the board of education for two years and was a farmer. His mailing address was Falling Waters, Berkeley County, West Virginia.
