Description	:	Vern Jacob DeWalt, 83, a resident of the Manson community for the past 25 years, died in the Chelan hospital Friday evening following a brief illness. Mr. DeWalt was born Nov. 20, 1878, in Jasper Co., near Newton, Iowa. As a small child he moved with his parents to a homestead near Dodge City. He later moved with his family to Cameron, Mo. Mr. DeWalt was born Nov. 20, 1878, in Jasper Co., near Newton, Iowa. As a small child he moved with his parents to a homestead near Dodge City. He later moved with his family to Cameron, Mo. Mr. DeWalt was married to Lettie McDaniel on August 20, 1899, at Kinston, Mo. There he resided until 1937 when he came to the Manson area. Mrs. DeWalt died in 1950 and in 1955 he married Mary Adams. Mr. DeWalt has served as janitor of the Manson Community Church, the Manson Community Hall and the Manson school for several years. He was a life long member of the Methodist Church. Surviving are three sons, Glen and J. V. DeWalt, both of Manson; and Harold DeWalt, Kingston, Mo.; one daughter, Mrs. Bertha Bryant, Manson; two sisters, Mrs. Grace Mow and Mrs. Carrie Freeman, both of Cameron, Mo.; nine grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Opal DeWalt in 1943.
