He had been ailing for a year past, is condition, however, was not thought to be serious until a few weeks before his death. Mr. Walters's life was marked by honesty and right living. Every obligation was faithfully and conscientiously met. He made no promise he could not fulfill. Good will toward all and malice toward none were traits of his excellent character. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Brick church, the Rev. L. W. Teetor conducting the services. Burial was made in the church cemetery. The bearers were George Monroe, Jos. L. Smith, Joseph McCullough, Monteville Miller, Wm. Replogle and Edwin Stamm. The following was read at the funeral services: OBITUARY--WALTERS Jacob Walters, son of Jacob and Anna Walters born 1836, at Oberentfeldon, Kanton Aegan, Switzerland, Europe, died at his home near Hagerstown, 1915, aged 78 years, seven months and one day. He emigrated to the United States of America in 1852. Was married to Sophia Stamm in 1859. To this union were born three children, John, Anna and Dora. The mother died in 1882. Anna and Dora are also dead. He was married to Harriette Brane, October 5, 1883. To this union was born one son, Charles F. Walters. He leaves a wife, two sons and their families and other friends to mourn their loss . His religion embraced the doctrines of Luther and the Lutheran Church. He was a member of the German branch of that church. As a husband and father, his own know, more than any others, his interest in their welfare. What sacrifices he was willing to make, that they might be benefitted and share together in life's pleasures, they of all others, know the best. It was said of him that he grieved much over the death of his daughters. As a friend and neighbor those about him can say the most. Generosity to friends was a leading part of his character. Pursuing a course of honesty, integrity, industry and activity, he was able to secure a competent home for himself and family. We are doing today what peoples of all ages have done since the world began. We are consigning his body to that last resting place--the grave. Here all bitterness, all resentments, all envy and all animosities are covered up. Here lie peaceful the upturned faces of the millions who have gone before. Here they will rest until the Master calls them. The time draws on, when not a single spot of burial earth, whether on land or in the spacious sea, but must give back its long committed dust, inviolate. Why weep ye then for him, Who having won The bound of man's appointed years, At last, life's blessings all enjoyed, Life's labors done, Serenely to his final rest has passed.
