Read More	Carroll Sentinel Carroll, Iowa Monday, November 26 1900 Page 1 Friday last Jacob Umbaugh passed away, but few knowing that he was even ill, having been on the streets the Monday before. In running an empty wagon down a slight incline, while holding the tongue, .one of the wheels struck a stump, causing the end of the tongue to strike him in the groin. This is believed to have aggravated a wound received in the war, which resulted in his death. The injury was thought to be of little consequence at first, although confining him to the house and later to his bed. The deceased was among the early settlers of Carroll county, locating near Carrollton in 1869, where he lived and farmed for a number of years. In 1888 be moved to Goon Rapids, where he resided until his death. He served three-years in the war of the rebellion, was in many of the most important battles of the war, and was wounded twice. He was quite an interested member of the G. A. R. post and enjoyed its meetings and entertainments with unusual interest, always being on hand to do his part of the work. He leaves a wife and seven children to mourn his death, also an only surviving meniber of his parent's family, Elias Umbaugh, a brother, of Carrolton.
