Description	:	Jahile Franklin Billups was the son of James Thomas Billups and Margaret Jane Billups Billups. His life span included three of America's most deadly wars. Born near the end of the Civil War he lived through WWI and died in the middle of WWII. Near the end of the Civil War, Missouri, where his parents lived was plagued by lawless deserters from both armies. In order to avoid this lawlessness Jahile's father, James, pregnant mother, Margaret and 4 year old sister, Cynthia packed all of their belongings into a covered wagon and left Missouri for Oregon. Born near the end of the Civil War he lived through WWI and died in the middle of WWII. Near the end of the Civil War, Missouri, where his parents lived was plagued by lawless deserters from both armies. In order to avoid this lawlessness Jahile's father, James, pregnant mother, Margaret and 4 year old sister, Cynthia packed all of their belongings into a covered wagon and left Missouri for Oregon. Just outside of Salt Lake City, Jahile was born in that covered wagon. The young family spent some time in that area until Margaret and Jahile were strong enough to continue traveling on to Oregon. Before they moved on word reached Salt Lake that the war was over and the troubles with the raiders had improved, so James and Margaret made the decision to return to Missouri instead of continuing on to Oregon. For most of his life Jay was a farmer, but did spend time helping his father with his sawmill and Blacksmith business. He married Cinthia Thompson, daughter of Buckner Thompson and Eliza Virginia Staggs on 16 Oct 1883 in Canton, Lewis, Missouri. Cinthia died sometime before 1890,(No record found of her death), and it appears they had no children. Jahile remarried on 6 Aug 1890 to Mrs Sarah Jane Simpson, young widow of James Vincent Simpson and daughter of David Musser and Rebecca Frazier at her father's home in Lewis County, Missouri. They had three daughters and five sons. Sarah Jane died in Sterling, Kansas in 1913, After her death, Jay moved around quite a bit, living in Missouri, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and San Diego, California until finally he lived in Patton, California. where he died.
