Description	:	Jake W. Wendt, 81, died Thursday, May 26, 1988, in his home at Parker, SD. Mr. Wendt was born Mar. 24, 1907, to Ernest and Bertha (Wiese) Wendt in the Sioux Falls Granite House. Jake after graduating from Parker High School, worked with his father in the implement business, known as Wendt Implement Co. He was then employed at the City Light Plant until he saved enough money to go to Iowa State Teachers College. Wendt, 81, died Thursday, May 26, 1988, in his home at Parker, SD. Mr. Wendt was born Mar. 24, 1907, to Ernest and Bertha (Wiese) Wendt in the Sioux Falls Granite House. Jake after graduating from Parker High School, worked with his father in the implement business, known as Wendt Implement Co. He was then employed at the City Light Plant until he saved enough money to go to Iowa State Teachers College. He was then employed at the Parker State Bank until 1942, when he enlisted in the US Navy. He spent three years in the Navy in Hawaii and on the island of Saipan. Upon returning home, he became associated with Turner County Abstract & Loan Co., in charge of insurance and real estate. Jake and his wife, Alice Stout, were married May 22, 1936. They purchased the Abstract & Loan business from A. M. Fisher. In May of 1984, Jake had a stroke and after a period of hospitalization, he was confined to a wheelchair and went to reside in the VA Nursing Home in Sioux Falls for nearly a year. After a very short stay in a Freeman nursing home, he returned to his own home. Jake did a lot of reading and watched TV, particularly all sports. He enjoyed living in his own home and remained there until the time of his death. Survivors include his wife, Alice, of Parker, one sister, Lucille, of California. Preceding him in death were his parents, two half-brothers, Fred and Leland, two half-sisters, Esther and Ruth, one brother, Elmer and one sister, Shirley.
