Description	:	Jake W. Rowe was buried on Sept. 7,1975 in Elmwood Cemetery, Georgetown County SC next to his parents, on a lot he had bought in the 1930's per his last will and testament. He was moved to PennyRoyal Memorial Gardens in the latter part of October 1975 by his wife. The headstone created for him as per his wishes was destroyed. Jake was the only father I ever knew and he loved me as though I was his own flesh and blood. He was a quiet, gentle, loving man who liked to "hang one on" once a year and then trade cars. He never approved of automatic transmissions, yet would start off in second gear from a dead stop every time.. I don't recall him ever using 1st gear! Never drove over 35 mph. One year he would come home with an automobile, the next year, it would be a pickup truck. Trucks were always red and always with a step side. Cars toggled between red and light blue. The make was always a Chevrolet. My fondest memories are sitting beside him on a small wooden bench he had made so I could see over the dashboard and driving to the local gas station where the men would get small bottle cokes out of the machine and then bet on who got the bottle from the farthest distance. the loser would pay for the other's drinks. Dad loved Bluegrass music and wanted more than anything to learn to play the mandolin. He never mastered it beyond a few chords but he never gave up trying. My dad worked hard all his life at menial jobs and he would do without something to see that I got whatever I wanted. He never traveled out of the state. He passed away the weekend before he was to come to our home with my father in law. He would have loved to see the mountains of NC/TN and the horse farms here in KY.
