Description	:	James Markley, 81, former Allamakee County farmer and Waukon, Iowa business man, died Tuesday morning at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr and Mrs. M.F.LaBaile, Waukegan, Illinois, where he had gone last November to make his home for a time. Read More	James Markley, 81, former Allamakee County farmer and Waukon, Iowa business man, died Tuesday morning at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr and Mrs. M.F.LaBaile, Waukegan, Illinois, where he had gone last November to make his home for a time. He had been ill since arriving there. Mr. Markley was born in Ludlow township on August 16, 1864, the son of Mr and Mrs. Michael Markley. He was educated in the rural schools and as a young man learned the blacksmith trade, working for a time for Heiser brothers in Waukon, Iowa. He married Millie Hewitt of Lansing, Iowa, January l, 1899, and for a time was engaged in farming in Ludlow township before moving to Waukon at the turn of the century. Mrs. Markley died Aroil 20, 1943. Mr. Markley was associated in the autobobile business here until 1915, and was the third man in Iowa and the first in Allamakee county to own a car, a 1902 model Oldsmobile. Later he operated a Mid-Contintent sevice station on South Spring avenue for many years. He was a first leutenant in Company I, State Militia, prior to the Spanish American war, was a charter member of the Pioneer fire company and served a number of years as city councilman from the second ward. Mr. Markley is survived by one sister, Mrs. Emma Fiet of Waukon, Iowa; three children, Mrs. LaBaile and Edgar Markley, both of Waukegan, Illinois, and Earl Markley of Waukon, Iowa; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Burial ws in the Oakland cemetery, Waukon, Iowa.
