The telephone box was removed from the domed building, fastened into a fence-post and details of the fire reported as inquiries came in throughout the day. Highland Recorder December 19, 1952 James A. Michael aged 88, passed away after a short illness, at his home Nov. 25, 1952. He was a son of the late David and Martha Michael. His wife who preceded him in death was Mrs. Mary Armstrong Michael. He is survived by the following children Mrs. Margie Bouldin, Mrs. Commack, and Mrs. A.J. Brill of Washington, Mrs. Virginia Crummett and Miss Florence Michael at home. One son, David Michael of Staunton. One niece, Mrs. J.N. Phillips of Tampa, Fla., four grandchildren , Buddy Brill Jr., Sandra Ann Crummett, Barbara Jean Commack and Patty Sue Commack. Mr. Michael was a member of the Methodist church and beloved by all who knew him. He was kind to all, enjoyed company and helpful to all who needed help. Funeral services were conducted on Friday by his pastor, Rev. R.N. Nuckols assisted by Rev. W.H. Zigler and Rev. George Rector. Interment was in McKendree Cemetery beside his wife. Highland Recorder October 24, 1947 MR. MICHAEL HONORED ON 81ST ANNIVERSARY Mr. James A. Michael of McDowell was honored with a turkey dinner on Saturday evening given by his daughter, Mrs. Virginia at their home. Mr. Michael celebrated his eighty-first anniversary on Sunday. Attending the birthday were Mrs. V.J. Brill and son Buddy; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Phillips, of Washington; Mrs. Paul Hiner and son Dick, and Mr. and Mrs. W.R. Hicklin of McDowell and little Sandra Crummett.
