Description	:	OBIT: JAMES A. (JIM) RUSSELL James A. (Jim) Russell, 76, a lifetime resident of the Kittitas Valley, died Friday morning at Kittitas Valley Community Hospital. Born Oct. 1, 1908, he was one of six children of Lorn and Elizabeth Russell. Mr. Russell attended local schools. He served in the Army during World War II with the 612th Division field artillery in the European Theater where he took part in the liberation of Dachau. (JIM) RUSSELL James A. (Jim) Russell, 76, a lifetime resident of the Kittitas Valley, died Friday morning at Kittitas Valley Community Hospital. Born Oct. 1, 1908, he was one of six children of Lorn and Elizabeth Russell. Mr. Russell attended local schools. He served in the Army during World War II with the 612th Division field artillery in the European Theater where he took part in the liberation of Dachau. He was a member of the local American Legion post. Mr. Russell was employed by Kern Livestock Co. from 1935 until 1970 and he also worked for a time for the Sanders and Martinez sheep operation. He was considered a top-drawer hand with sheep. In 1974, Mr. Russell was employed by the Kittitas County Action Council as a senior citizens' aide. He worked with senior outreach, transportation and the community garden project and was active in the Older American Nutrition Program and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. He was an avid rock collector and enjoyed sharing his finds with friends. Following retirement in 1980, he moved to Hampton Court and lived there until 1984, when he entered Gold Leaf Convalescent Center. He is survived by a nephew, Dewey Barnes, of Sonnett, Mont., and a number of grandnieces and grandnephews. Funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Evenson Chapel. The Rev. Bill Dietz will officiate. Burial will be at the IOOF Cemetery with American Legion graveside service. Viewing at Evenson Chapel 9 a.m-noon Monday.
