Wade was born in Montgomery, Indiana, February the 8th, 1845, and passed away at his home in Osceola, Iowa, December 14, 1818, age 73 years, 10 months and 6 days. He was a son of Isaac and [Eleanor] Barnhill Wade who were natives of Kentucky who reared a family of nine children, as follows: W. S. Wade, Mrs. Elizabeth Hart, James A. Wade, Mary Alice, Eliza Jane, John Henry, Martha Ann, Charles Harvey and Manda Susan, all of them passing on to that country from which no traveler returns, except Mrs. Hart and Charles Harvey Wade. When he was two years of age his parents moved to Des Moines county, Iowa, where they resided for ten years and in 1857 he came to Clarke county, Iowa, settling on a farm in Green Bay township where his long time residence has made him acquainted with the development of the county. When the country was disturbed over the question of slavery and the black cloud of war was settling down upon the country with many people undecided as to the righteousness of the cause, and many good people on the wrong side and with no certainty as to the outcome; a condition which many people cannot understand. It was a conflict which was trying to the souls of men as they had never been tried before in the history of the world, and right in the thick of the fray when there was no letting up on either side Mr. Wade enlisted, it was in October, 1863. He joined the 9th Iowa Cavalry, Company H, and served until the close of the war and was honorably discharged at Davenport, Iowa. He was united in marriage March 6, 1870 to Miss Jane Harbin, the daughter of John and Prudence Gardner Harbin. To this union five children were born, all of which survive. He moved from the farm into Osceola in March, 1905, where he has continued to live until he passed away. In 1872 he was converted and untied with the church; and he united with the local Methodist Episcopal church in January, 1914. His religious life was of a practical nature, asking for no loud acclaims but was well understood by all who knew him and best revealed to those who were intimate with him. He rests now in the repose of a well spent life. Farewell soldier true, whose life was not reserved above your country's honor. Neighbor royal, whose interest was devoted to the best for all. Husband devoted, whose love for home is the richest benediction of your life. Father faithful, whose timely council is our richest legacy. He leaves to mourn his devoted wife and five children, Levina Eleanor, wife of J. E. Tabler; Nellie Myrtle, wife of E. C. Staley; Archie R. Wade, Lester A. Wade and one great grandchild, and a large company of sympathizing friends. Funeral services were conducted from the Methdist Episcopal church Sunday after noon by the Rev. James F. McKay, and the remains laid to rest in Maple Hill cemetery.
