EWING, EXPIRES One of Town's Pioneer Businessmen Dies Monday; Funeral Wednesday James Albert Ewing, 87, one of McComb's pioneer businessmen died of senility at 2:30 pm yesterday in Kollmeier convalescent home on Broadway. He had been in failing health for several months and in serious condition the past week. Born April 23, 1860 he was the son of George and Sarah Ewing and lived in Hancock county all of his life. He married Euphemia Miller on April 4, 188, and she preceded him in death on June 29, 1939. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Walter A. Alexander, Bowling Green, a son, Robert D. Ewing, Rocky River and four grandchildren, Robert and James Alexander and William and Sally Ann Ewing. Four sisters Marinda Heahler, Mrs. Addie Foster, Mrs. Joseph Smith and Mrs. Albert Rumer and four brothers, George, Henry, Andrew and John are deceased. Mr. Ewing stated working in the Ewing and Oakes Hardware and Tin shop at the age of 17. He later acquired a furniture store which he sold to W. W. Kirch in 1888. In 1899 he stared a retail boot and shoe store with W. H. Sherard as an employee. When he retired in 1929 he had taken Mr. Sherard in as a partner. A member of the Knights of Pythias and the Mcccabeees he belonged to the McComb Presbyterian Church. During his life time he served on the McComb school board. He held office as a councilman.
