He spent his entire life in Buchanan County except for the last three years when he lived in Fayette County where he died. On February 3rd 1910, he married Nellie Roszell, to which union were born four children of which Evelyn, Donald and Helen are living, Margaret having preceded him at the age of two and one half years. He leaves to mourn his death, his bereaved wife and three children, two brothers; William Hilton and Wesley Hilton of Jesup and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Fenstermaker, besides half brothers and sisters; Fred Winn and Frank Hilton of Jesup, George Hilton of Cedar Falls, Mrs.Fox of Plattesville, Wisconsin, Mrs. Peacock of Cuba City Wisconsin, Mrs. Letzenberg and Sarah Hemmer of Aurora, South Dakota. His mother preceded him in death nearly seven months ago. He was a man of high ideals, sincere in his purpose and highly devoted to his family. He was baptized in infancy and brought up in a Christian home. He recently confessed Christ as his savior and died in the hope of the eternal home with God.Especially the last three years, he has been in failing health, though not confined to his bed much of the time. Funeral services were held in the Spring Creek church, Thursday afternoon at 2 O'Clock conducted by the Rev. T.J Elwick of Jesup. The beautiful floral offerings bespoke the sympathy of many friends. Relatives and friends who came to attend the funeral were; Mr and Mrs. G Fox, Mrs. Ellen Peacock and C. Hilton of Plattesville, Wisconsin. Mr and Mrs G Hilton, Mr and Mrs Milford Hilton, Dr. and Mrs Roe and daughter, Cedar Falls. Mrs. C Thompsen, Allison, R. Letzenberg and son, Alta. Mrs. Ellen Roszell, V. Roszell and A. Roszell of Vinton. Mr and Mrs C. Snow of Independence, Mrs G Brunskill and Miss Margaret Brunskill, Dubuque. Internment was in the Spring Creek cemetery, near the old home where he spent his happy boyhood. Obituary and full name provided courtesy of Stacey Brewer.
