Description	:	James Ambros Gilstrap Sr., 79, of 207 Omega Lane died in his home on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002 after a brief illness. Born in the Mountain Grove community of Pickens on Nov. 10, 1923, he was the youngest of seventeen (17) of the combined families of Bright and Bessie Gillespie Baker Gilstrap. Born in the Mountain Grove community of Pickens on Nov. 10, 1923, he was the youngest of seventeen (17) of the combined families of Bright and Bessie Gillespie Baker Gilstrap. He served in the Navy during World War II and the Naval Reserves until he retired while serving time as a counselor. He was a member of First Baptist Church Pickens. During his church life, he served as an active deacon in three other churches before coming to First Baptist and had been involved in a number of mission trips to Kentucky, West Virginia, Rhode Island and Burton. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carolyn Sexton Gilstrap of Miami, Fla.; two sons, James, Jr. and Robin and a daughter-in-law, Denise Whitlock Gilstrap; three grandchildren, Nichole, Kyle, Neil and a step-granddaughter, Carrie Southerland, her husband and three daughters. His brother, Sam Baker of the Holly Springs community is his only surviving sibling. He worked for RC-Cheerwine Beverages in Greenville, until his retirement. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Dec. 7, 2002 at Pickens First Baptist at 11 a.m. followed by family visitation and a meal of celebration in the church Fellowship Hall.
