Jim was born on May 21, 1931 in Oskaloosa, Iowa to Lloyd and Mary Etta Price (nee Chilcote). He graduated from Bussey High School in 1949. November 1949 he enlisted in the United States Army and completed basic training at Fort Riley, Kansas. Corporal James Price served honorably in the 765th Transportation Railway Shop Battalion during the Korean War where he received the Korean Service Medal with 5 Bronze Service Stars and a Meritorious Unit Emblem Award. He was honorably discharged in November 1952. He briefly returned to Iowa before returning to Maryland working at Aberdeen Proving Grounds. Jim later returned to Iowa where he worked for 40 years at Pella Corporation (Rolscreen) where he received his Tool and Dye Certificate through the Des Moines Area Community College. Because of his continued enjoyment in working with his hands; Jim became a gunsmith and opened Hawkeye Small Arms. During his retired years he also provided numerous hours volunteering his services for the Westridge Nursing Center and the Freedom Bible Camp. Jim is survived by his beloved wife Evelyn Louise Price (nee Crouse), the love of his life. They were married on May 9, 1953 after meeting on a blind date. They spent 63 fantastic years by each other’s side and were inseparable. Jim is survived by his loving children – Dale (Carol) of Crete, Ill; Kay Price of Coralville, IA; Amy Williamson (George) of Adel, IA.; Kelly (Susan Bull) of Bussey; and Jay (Diana) of Wichita, KS. Jim was a man of great faith; instilled these values into his children by having daily family scripture readings. He was a member of Oskaloosa Evangelical Church and adored his church family. He was an avid story teller and most recently started sharing his experiences he had during the Korean War. He had a great sense of humor and could put a smile on anyone’s face. He never met a stranger. Jim is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, his sister Wilma Allison and brothers Paul and John Price. Jim is predeceased by his parents, Lloyd and Mary Etta Price. As Jims’ children we will strive to continue his legacy of a loving demeanor. We urge all those who knew our father to put God first, love with all your heart, and smile frequently. Funeral Services will he held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 15, 2016 at the Oskaloosa Evangelical Church with Pastor Paul Hughes officiating. Burial with military rites will follow services in Bluff Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2016, from 4:00 -8:00 p.m. with family present at Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia. In lieu of flowers; donations may be made to: The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (donate.lls.org) or The Oskaloosa Care Center. Online condolences may be left for the family at sinnottfuneralhome.com
