Read More	Obituary Marietta Times 3 August 2015 James Arthur Jones, 79, of Marietta, Ohio, passed away Aug. 1, 2015, at his residence surrounded by his family. Art was born Nov. 6, 1935, in Athens County to the late Walter Earl and Nellie Mae McDaniel Jones. Art started his education at Waterloo High School where he was a valedictorian of the class of 1953. After graduation he worked with the Ohio Department of Resources raising pheasants and wild turkeys. He attended Ohio University and spent two years as a student trainee in soil and water conservation. He graduated in 1957 from Ohio University with a BS degree in Agriculture. After college he joined the U.S. Air Force. He was a staff sergeant with the 302nd Troop Carrier Wing. He was county supervisor in Woodsfield, Ohio, for 17 1/2 years with Farmers Home Administration, USDA. He was transferred to Marietta, Ohio, in the 70's as a district director of District 4. He was head of 15 counties and seven county offices. He retired on Nov. 4, 1994, after 39 years. He was a member of the Sixth and Washington Streets Church of Christ where he served as a deacon and remained as an Elder. He spent many years volunteering at Campus Martius Museum as a docent on the WP Snyder pilot boat and led school tours and activities. He served 16 years as Regional Director of District 4 AARP tax aid program. He became a member of the Marietta Civitan in April 1994 where he was Secretary and then became President. He was also President of NAEFE since 1993. Art was proud of his family and loved spending time and holidays with all of them. He enjoyed photography and being outdoors gardening, hiking, biking, traveling, especially his trips to Disney with his grandchildren. He love spending time with his grandson, Joshua watching him participate in his athletic activities, going to OU Bobcat ball games and Black Friday shopping with his granddaughters in Indiana. His most recent joy in life was the time with his great granddaughter Madison that was born June 6, 2015. Art is survived by his wife, Judith "Judy" Caroline Robinson Jones; son, James Arthur Jones Jr. (Debra) of Muncie, Ind.; daughter, Peggy Ritchey (Dan) of Reno, Ohio; grandchildren, Lori Ritchey Ludwig (Stephen) and Josh Ritchey, both of Marietta, Ohio, and Michelle and Chantelle Jones, both of Muncie, Ind.; great granddaughter, Madison Ludwig; and a brother, Alan Jones (Linda) of New Marshfield, Ohio In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, David Lauren Jones; a daughter, Lori Ann Jones; and a sister, Mary Lou Jones. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2015, at Sixth and Washington Church of Christ with Roger A. Rush officiating. Burial will follow at New Marshfield Cemetery with full military rites. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Tuesday Aug. 4, at Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel, 1921 Pike St. The family would like to thank Dr. Kelli Cawley and all of the staff at Strecker Cancer Center for the care and attention given to him during his fight with cancer.
