Description	:	James A Malloy, familiarly known here as Gene, a former State Center businessman, died at De Paul Hospital at St Louis, Missouri at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 29. He had suffered a stroke on Tuesday, July 22, and had been in serious condition since that time. Funeral service will be held at St Mary's Church in Colo at 9:00 a.m. Saturday with the Father Jerome Cross saying the Mass and the Father Ronald J Axen giving the sermon. James A Malloy was born at Clemons, Iowa, April 16, 1892, the son of Jane Croker Malloy and James E Malloy, pioneer residents of Marshall county. He finished school in State Center in 1911. He attended a business college in Cedar Rapids the following year and then returned to State Center to enter the clothing business with his father. He was married to Miss Elma Niland at Colo on September 7, 1923. They were the parents of four children, Claire Reed of St Louis, Missouri, Marilyn Mac Alone of St Louis, Missouri, James E Jr of St Louis, Missouri and Joyce of Colo. Mr Malloy continued in the clothing business here from 1913 to 1922. In 1917 he joined the U.S. Army and served 18 months in World War I over seas. H saw action in four major battles including the battle of the Argonne Forest and was a member of the famed Lost Battalion. He helped organize Harland G Pfantz Post of the American Legion and was the post's first commander. He served on the city council for two terms and was influential in getting considerable work done on the streets and laying out the city park. The Malloy family moved to Detroit later where Mr Malloy became manager of the Harry Suffrin Clothing Company. They remained there until 1934, when they moved to St Louis, Missouri where Mr Malloy operated a used car agency. In December of 1950 he was married to Margaret McGrath of St Louis. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Elks Lodge. He is survived by his wife, his mother, Mrs Jane Malloy of State Center, two daughters, Mrs Marilyn Mac Alone of St Louis, Missouri and Joyce of Colo, two sons, Clare Reed and James E Jr of St Louis, Missouri; and two stepsons, James and Edward of St Louis, Missouri. He is also survived by six sisters, Mrs Frances O'Donnell of Colo, Mrs Mary McCarthy of Webster City, Mrs Leota Kruse of Vinton, Mrs Marcelle McMahon of St Louis, Missouri, Mrs Margaret Niland of Colo and Margaret of Des Moines; six brothers, Harry of Marshalltown, John of Des Moines, Charlie, Joe, Bernard and Dan of State Center and seven grandchildren.
