Dodge, 60, a former Ottumwan, died Thursday at 2:45 p.m. at McCoy hospital in Harrison, Ark., following an accident which occurred August 9. Mr. Dodge was an employee of the city of Harrison and was engaged in sewer construction when he was buried beneath a cave-in of four or five tons of dirt. He had been a resident of Harrison for the past year. The son of L.C. and Mary E. Dodge, he was born November 17, 1886, near Pulaski, Iowa. His marriage to Sylvia E. Howell took place on July 1, 1911. Before moving to Arkansas he made his home in Ottumwa for some time. Mr. Dodge was a member of the Christian church at Orleans, Iowa. His parents, two brothers, and four sisters preceded him in death. Mr. Dodge is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Maurice Swarts of Ottumwa; one brother, Lew Dodge of Toledo, Iowa; two sisters, Mrs. L.B. Thomas of Rockford, Ill., and Mrs. Noah Murphy of Centerville; and two grandchildren, Dixie Lee Swarts and Gale Richard Swarts, both of Ottumwa. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Davis Street Christian church in charge of Rev. Bruce B. Matthews. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The body will remain at the Johnson funeral chapel until noon Monday when it will be taken to the church.
